WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

I am wanting to hop-up my current 250 by doing some headwork. I've never done any engine work like this and want to learn by doing. My current 250 non-integrated head is fine, but don't want the truck to be down.

Anyone have one they can sell?

Thanks!
Jeff

I believe my 250 is from mid to upper 70s. Would that mean your heads would not fit?

Crud, you're in Canada. Shipping would suck.

Tkeduk8, sounds awesome! Probably way out of my price range.

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

I put a 67 194 head on a 75 250 block and it worked. Not enough experience to be sure.
On my head we cut out the pillar between the intake ports and now use allen key flat head bolts to torque the head. This is part of the process to Siamese the ports. We put larger Valves in it as well. We ported the head to match the aluminum intake. So long ago I can't remember all the details. My buddy supplied me with articles on how to soup up a inline 6 and we followed as much as we could back in 86. We cut 1/4" off a Small Block Nascar Harmonic Balancer to fit on the Inline 6.

This is what it sounds like through two International Harvester resonators.

How much? Shipping would be to 65745?

Is the rust just surface rust?

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

I would say you would have to have the head planed. Hot tank the rest. Will you oversize the valves? I could lighten it by removing the valves and springs?

I would like to change the valves to 1.84/1.6 if I can do that myself (trying to read as much as I can, love learning to diy). I've also read that it milling the head down to 0.060 helps compression?

Once all this is done I'm going to upgrade the cam.

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

I have a spare 230. I'd sell the whole thing or just the head if you are interested. As far as I know, the 194-230-250-292 non integral heads are interchangeable but the 194's have smaller combustion chambers. I will also be in Branson next month for the car show and can bring it with.

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

Haha.... I meant I had 80 hours into the one I built, and I have a spare stock one here I'd let go.... but looks like you have someone who could meet you in MO to save on shipping.... on a side note the one I built for my 250 has 1.94 intakes,1.60 exhausts installed with new guides, Tom Lowe's lump port kit, intake bolt bosses removed, all ports ported/polished, and .120 milled off... combustion chambers cc'd out to 72 cc's.... you can remove intake bolt bosses yourself as well as he lump port kit and port and polish, however, unless you have a milling machine and some specialized tooling, sent the head out for surfacing and valve enlargement and hardened valves eats if needed... good luck!
Mike

Man, you could probably get more money selling the whole engine on Craigslist.

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

It's not hurting anything where it's at. I was just offering to try to help a fellow member out. If you want just the head I'll be glad to pull it off for you, if you want to look elsewhere that's fine too.

Whoa! Forgot to reply!

I am very interested. When exactly will you be in Branson and how much for the head?

Thank you!

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

Idk, $75? I haven't taken it off yet, but it was a running engine with decent compression. The cam/crank gears broke a tooth or two off and it jumped time, so I pulled the engine and put another one I had in. I'll be there August 11-14.

Re: WTB: Rebuildable 250 head

Looks like you are about 3 hours from here if you want to make the full trip sometime. We do go to Branson/Springfield several times a year so if you're not in a hurry...
