1963 Chevy Motorhome

Well i got a new project this past weekend. It's a 1963 Chevy Motorhome built by Roll-A-Long. It suprised me when i looked at it that it was just a 3/4 ton that had coils front and rear with helper leafs in the rear. The front end and cab are in almost perfect shape with very very little rust in the lower fenders! There isn't even any rust on the inner fenders!
The roof doesn't leak but the interior could use some cleaning up. But it has a fridge, toilet, sink, and oven with 3 burner stovetop.
Sometime in its past a buick 400 with an automatic was installed. It didn't run but with a fresh battery and some fuel down the carb i got it to fire.
Anyway i'm excited to get this old beauty on the road again and go camping this summer in it!

Re: 1963 Chevy Motorhome

PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but, this thing is something one would expect to see in joke series of e/mails about "Redneck (fill in the Blank)" like 'Redneck Tiltin' Hilton', or the like.

Only thing about that is, this thing is the KOOL'est thing since holes in dunuts, it is fabulous. I live in Northern Nevada, am not a redneck, but, I LOVE THIS 'MOTOR HOME'.

All I have to say about it is, "WAY, WAY TOO KOOL, RUFUS!". When do I get to move in????

What a fantastic find for you, absolutely priceless. (It DOES need a 305 or 351 V6, or, extend the front end, and install a V12 in it, you do know!)

I also used to live in Whittier, not that far from Tyler Avenue, in El Monte, Ca., where those were built eons ago.

Re: 1963 Chevy Motorhome

Nice find. Retro motorhomes are so cool. If the Buick powerplant has good oil pressure, you'll enjoy it...even the buick 350's are very torquey and I think they are lighter than the SBC. The front mounted distributor is another plus. If it's really a 400, it came out of either a GS or a SportWagon.

Is the transmission a Turbo 400?

This is true, they do have more torque than SBC because they have a longer stroke, and they are lighter. I love those Buick smallblocks.

Sweet camping rig man!

Re: 1963 Chevy Motorhome

I do a LOT of work on the all aluminum Buick 215's and their off shoots, Rover 4.0 and 4/6 engines, strokers, big bore, large valves, EFI< and they are great engines. Same can be said for the larger cast iron Buick V8's, they are tough all the way around, and deliver great torque output.

I also really kike Dino's camper.

Re: 1963 Chevy Motorhome

VERY COOL!!! And I'm not a redneck! In fact a California- Mexican, greaseball!!! Haha! I'd rock that thing all over! I've always thought that when I retire, I'd buy a big brand new rv and go cross-country, but after seeing this, I made up my mind that I will find one and totally re-do it with a brand new big block and discs instead! HECK YEEAH!!! NICE! I see your vision!

Re: 1963 Chevy Motorhome

64shortc10: i got a killer deal on this rig! Well atleast i think so! I paid$500 for it.

update: Put a new fuel pump in it and got it to run and actually runs really well. But the tranny wasn't doing anything so i checked the fluid and had to add 5 quarts of ATF and runs and drives great! Today i drove it down to the gas station and gave her a wash and put a couple gallons in it. Now i just need to get it licensed and start camping!
