Question Top of Dash

The top of my dash, cardboard part where the defroster vents are needs attention. In all the catalogs I have I havn't seen any listed. I'm sure these were painted with a flat or matt finish in regards to the glare from the sun. Is it possible to remove it from the truck without pulling the windshield? Maybe just pulling the dash pad and inside moldings?

Re: Top of Dash

hello old51sedan.Top off dash where defrost outlets are is metal. If yours appears to be cardboard maybe a past owner fitted a piece of material there. If you remove your dashpad you will be down to the metal that runs up to the window.a good lite sanding and a good tape job and you are good to go.....a good flat black spray will do the trick.hope there is no ugly holes under the cardboard if there is a piece of it. remember no cardboard on top of dash ever....unless previous owner installed for some reason.......satin works also..but I hate glare...little bit of glare with satin I have found......Rob..

Re: Top of Dash

As said, no cardboard. dash is steel. And just to add to the conversation I painted my dash gloss body color and wet sanded the shine down, looks great, reflection but no glare. Did the same with the defrost vents.

Re: Top of Dash

Thanks for the replies. I guess it's time I tore it apart to see what is going on. I've got a new column on the way that needs painting so it sounds like a good time to do something with the top of the dash also.
