Difference between C10 and C20
I've been looking for a Suburban lately and I see that some are 5-lug C10 and some are 8-lug C20's. I'm only looking for a 2wd vehicle so that I can eventually lower it. My question is, what would be a better platform to start with? A C10 or C20?
Next question, if I do find a Suburban that is four wheel drive how much work would it be to convert to 2wd only? Thanks, Nick |

Re: Difference between C10 and C20
C20 is heavier duty suspension and drive line parts for higher payload/better towing capacity.
I'd say C10 for sure because there are probably more options for rims and suspension parts. Doesn't sound like you'll be doing any towing or hauling. Less work to do if you don't have to pull axle and transfer case. Plus leave our 4x4's alone you damn lowriders!! Get off my lawn! |

HAHAHAHA, thanks for the reply Manatee.
Has anyone ever done a 5-lug to 6-lug conversion on a C10? I'd like to run newer style GM rims on the Suburban. |

Re: Difference between C10 and C20
I'd say a 1/2 ton is the better starting point for one that's going to be (cringe) lowered. And the most common way to go 2WD>4WD is a frame swap, so the same probably goes for the reverse. All 20 series trucks of this era have 8-lug hubs - 10 series started with 6, went to 5 in 1970 or '71?

A 2wd c20 burb will have beefier rear arms, a high hump tranny cover and bigger control arms.
