Thinking of buying a 93 Chevy crewcab 6.5TD

Am new to this scene but i love how the 93-99 Chevy/Gmc duallies look. But I heard of the pros and cons of owning one. I even did my research on these motor and etc.... I even saw videos on making the 6.5 TD's better not by much but then how it is .. I saw this guy do a bomb proof the 6.5s to get better fuel mileage and more stuff.. And I heard u can't really haul anything without it breaking down or overheating.. But if I do haul anything it will be a little lo boy trailer moving stuff but nothing really really head maybe a few hundred pounds or less and maybe help friends or families to pull their vehicles out or something. But am mostly going to have it as a project and my daily driver basically it's going to be a cruiser not going to race it its gunna be like a show truck not one of those extremely show truck just like a simple show truck

Any positive advice from you all Chevy and 6.5 TD Gods help me out 😂
Again thank you all

Re: Thinking of buying a 93 Chevy crewcab 6.5TD

I worked on the 6.5TD many years when I was in the dealership. Yes, they have issues but they are not that bad and way cheaper to work on than the new diesels. The 93 is a manual injection pump, so it doesn't have the dreaded PMD to fail. There is still a good following for the old 6.5 so parts are out there. I personally use http://www.ssdieselsupply.com/index.html They are the best source I've found and have lots of upgrades. I still maintain my dads 95 2500 with the 6.5 that he bought in 98. I've seen it literally pulling a John Deere combine on a gooseneck trailer. Yes it was way to much for it but it didn't care. Never had any overhead issues or major break downs. I tell people, you wont be first getting there but you will make it. Just stay away from the non turbo models, poor things were like a 307 Olds, didn't even make enuf power to blow itself up.

Maybe its a late 93. If it has a throttle cable on it, it doesn't have the PMD. I disagree with the video. The engine computer does a better job of adjusting boost even though you have to used the vac pump just for it. Dads truck is only on vac pump #2. Most people think all you have to do is add boost to make power but you have to add fuel too or you didn't do anything. The fan, big exhaust and lift pump relay are all worth doing. I also like the marine injectors (40HP addition). The stock lift pump does fine if the strainer isn't stopped up in the tank, most people never check this. If you have a PMD, BUY a new PMD, relocation heat sync and a calibration resistor and your good.

Check out the link I posted for prices. I say yes on the vac pump but that's just me. Not sure about the radiator on fitment.

Yea. Especially if you are wanting the extra MPG.

Will both of the injectors do the something besides one is 25+hp and $399.99 and the other one gives 40+ hp and is $425.

But regardless they both will work fine
