'55 GMC First Series Value question
I'm new to this cite but not new to restoring cars. I've always had an affinity for trucks from the years 1955 and up but never really paid any attention to older trucks.
Well I spotted this 1955 first series GMC about two years ago just sitting in the same spot in a guy's backyard. Well, last week I knocked on his door to take some pictures. He was cool and let me look her over pretty good. Anyway he called me over the weekend and said he would entertain an offer. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater The truck is currently licensed, runs and drives. It's a from New Mexico but I noticed rust in the front corners of the floor as well as the rear corners of the floor. Slight rust on the bottom of the right fender. The wood in the bed is out but all of the metal strips are still there. Engine is a 6 cyl with hydramatic transmission. With the exception of added lights to the rear, it's a complete truck and its 100% original. So I've been doing my homework and all sheet metal is available. I want to keep her all stock and just have fun with her after replacing the floor pan. I'm going to make him an offer this weekend but don't want to leave money on the table or insult him. Any opinions? Thank you in advance |

Re: '55 GMC First Series Value question
Wow, that's a gorgeous start.
Runs, drives but needing complete restoration? In my area that would be priced on either side of $5000. Floor pan replacement isn't for the faint of heart.

Re: '55 GMC First Series Value question
that hydramatic weighs a quarter ton, and they are pretty good transmissions when they work properly. pretty desireable too.
looks like a great start!

Re: '55 GMC First Series Value question
Well I drove the truck yesterday and I was surprised to find out the owner had (in a box) a new wiring harness for the truck, new wood for the bed including the metal strips and hardware, and new side mirrors. In my opinion it sounded like it had a burnt valve but it ran fine. The owner wanted $8500 which was more than I was willing to pay. So, if anyone is interested the owner's name is Gary (really nice guy) and he can be reached @ 6026172920.
Rust: back cab corners as normal, floor board needs to be replaced, toe board needs replaced. Inside Cowl panels need replaced. Outside cowl on driver's side need replaced. 99% stock, new u-joints. Needs tires. New tank too. Good Luck Chuck
