4" Rear Coil Spring Drop, while carrying a Harley Davidson Street Glide

My question is, I would like to lower my truck. I have purchased the 4" drop coils for the rear end and will put them on soon. I have seen many 4/6 drop trucks and actually like the looks of them better.

If I were to put an additional drop block on the back making it a 6" drop, would I be able to put my Harley Davidson street glide in the back of it, without bottoming out? I am pretty sure with the 4 inch, I am good, but that extra 2" worries me. I do not want to put a trailer hitch on it and tow it with a trailer, I want to put it in the back.

The best way I would know to find out is measure on a flat surface how much you have from the ground to the wheel well load your bike and see how much deflection you have take that minus 2" and how close would you be to rubbing.

Easiest way to cure the problem is go to air bags.

Thank You for that. I wasn't sure if stopped height would be different than travel distance of the suspension at speed.

Whatever you do, don't get cpp springs. They are soft as butter and will compress too much. My truck was lowered by previous owner and I didn't know how much, so I ordered 5" rear drop from cpp. Turns out I had Ece springs that we're already 5" drop, but the cpp springs sat nearly 2" lower in rear and we're practically bottomed out with an empty bed. Ece makes firm stock drop springs that are suitable for trucks, but cpp rear springs are made for a Honda or something. If you want an extreme drop and want to haul I would buy c20 or 3/4 ton drop springs from Gmc Paul. I got 4" c20 drop spring ings which are firm, but I can haul stuff in my lwb without constantly bottoming out.

If this is the case, I went through classic industries and that is what I got CPP 4" drop coils. Classic Industries has them for $99.99. Seemed like a quick easy adjustment.

Install them and judge for yourself. I doubt you will have a problem.

don't get 2" blocks because if you have a blow-out on the highway your trailing arms will grab asphalt. 1.5" blocks are supposed to clear the scrub line. if i were you i would buy a 1" drop block kit (blocks and u-bolts) and buy an extra pair of 1/2" blocks. that way you can fiddle around with anything from 4" to 5.5" drop.

EDIT: the 2" block is only an issue if you have 15" wheels. larger wheels should be fine.

This is awesome advice. I never even thought of this while building my frame off back up. I went out and measured with my tape and sure enough. I'm gonna have to pull the 2 inch block off and run a 1 inch. Thank you 68bowtie..

How much does your bike weigh? Reason I ask...I have 4" CCP springs + 1.75 blocks and I can hall ~500#....hits snubbers on big bumps. Just read your signature...you shouldn't have an issue with a C notch. Other than your diff hitting the bottom of you bed when fully loaded?

Drop it where ever you want it and use air bag spring helpers when you have the Harley loaded , cost about $100.00 easy peasy !

I had 4" drop springs on my 71longbed no blocks but I had air shocks to supplement the ride and I had no problems with my 69electraglige and 46 indian chief loaded up on a thoiusand mile plus rode trip

no , you are going to have frame to differential contact , unless , you put air bags in the springs , 5 inches is usually the recommended limit , without a heavy load ,. I would not trust air shocks , you "might get away with them ", but the truck will run better with bags in the springs , than air shocks

i have the hotchkiss 6" drop springs out back with Belltech shocks, im 210 lbs and i can jump on the back and it will only travel about an inch or two. Hotchkiss springs are pretty beefy...
Street glide is a nice hefty bike, so on the safe side and ease of mind in my opionion i would go with air helper bags like previously suggested.

the air shocks I used for over 8years with over 150000miles never had a problem with them carrying a heavy load long distance driving in over 25different states// they still held air when I got rid of the truck

Recently I got my 4/6 ECE drop installed. The first pic is with just the 4/6 drop, today I put on the CCP 2 inch block...that is the second pic. I think with the 2 inch block you'll be pushing it, I'm going to drive this around for a bit to see if I like how it rides now. Hope this helps.

6" leaves little room to snubbers. I have a 4/6 drop on my project and I want to be able to haul in the bed and tow. I am going to bags in place of coils in the rear to have a truck that sits low that can haul. Either that, or dig on a cool era-correct rake and put 4" springs in

Thank you all for the information. I have mailed my 4" CPP coils back to classic industries. I will look at the different air options. Thank you for your input. The more and more I look at these trucks, I like the 4/6 drop, so I will be exploring this and the air options.

Drop it whatever you want and install "helper bags" inside the rear coils. Air them up for a load, deflate when done.

your Street Glide is what, like 800#? I'd say now lower than 4" drop w/o a c-notch to maintain proper travel. That's why I'm going with bags in place of coils,meaning stock trailing arms with bags where the coils go. you can let it down when empty and compensate for the bike to ride at desired height. I like to have the option of running level like a car, what most like, or running a rake, like a truck...and how they did cars in these trucks' day and on back.
