Cutting Moog 6454

Looking into buying moog's 6454 coil springs and cutting one coil off for a 2" drop. While looking at pics of them I noticed that the coils are spaced out more than typical springs and was wondering if cutting one full coil would cause any issues with it seating properly.

Re: Cutting Moog 6454

I'm specifically looking at this springs because I want a stiffer spring rate compared to cutting the stock springs.

Re: Cutting Moog 6454

That is just a typical spring photo, not the actual spring you will be getting.

Re: Cutting Moog 6454

This listing on fleabay has the actual picture of the springs out of the box and they look exactly like the previous pic. Has anybody purchased this spring lately and confirm if they do or don't match the pics??

Re: Cutting Moog 6454

Those are not front springs pictured. Apparently Moog only has one generic file photo for all their springs. The ebay springs are listed for G30 vans and my G30's have typical front springs with closer coils than the pic, mor like these:

I always worry about fitting a spring after cutting a coil. Nowadays I would try to get a little fancy and heat the coil 3-4 inches past the cut and try to flatten it down some to fit better.

Re: Cutting Moog 6454

Here's a pic of a truck I recently built with the 6454 spring with 1-1/2 round off the spring with 3" drop spindles. The rear was a simple flip kit with the bottom overload spring removed. Total drop was 4.5" & 6". I hope this helps.

No, they just like stock coil springs only the diameter is a little larger.

Re: Cutting Moog 6454

That definitely looks more like them. I got in contact with the seller for that ebay listing I posted the link for and he did confirm that those are the actual springs in the pics as they came out of the box. I'll probably just order them from amazon and keep my fingers crossed lol!
