Anyone ship a grille?

Anyone ship USPS? Any advice?

I ship with the Post Office all the time. A lot of people like to ***** about it, I've never had a problem.

I had a bad experience with the post office. I had bought a Luftwaffe marked K98 Mauser stock from gunbroker in 2005 and the seller shipped it USPS. It was broken in half. Something had creased the box badly.....it was a pitty as Luftwaffe marked stocks are rare and you just don't see that at all now.

Thank God the seller asked me if I wanted it insured, otherwise I would not have known to ask. I got my money back on it and took off all the metal parts. The seller eventually got the stock back, odd since the post office was supposed to keep it, according to the local post master.

Now, any time I ship an item than can be damaged, I go for a wooden crate. I bought a fender off a member here who assured me a box would be fine. (I suspect she just didn't want to build/handle a crate) but UPS disagreed with that, badly denting it. It was insured and they paid for most of the repair, but I had to put out like $80.00 on the repair also. Never again.

I would ship a grill in a wooden crate, no matter what the cost. If you don't, you invite damage/loss. If you get lucky with a box, God bless you, if you do not, well, I'll pray for ya.

I built two wooden crates for a member back in April. My crates were heavy but both the buyer and the shipper's truck driver remarked "best built crates they had ever seen." There are two threads here on those.

I ship grilles all over you have to use UPS . USPS wont take them over 70" most of the time the cost is about $65.00 .

Do you just do them in a box with packing material? Build your own box or do they sell a perfect sized one someplace?

I build my own box by using large sheets of cardboard and a ton of tape . pad the front of the grille and start taping like crazy .you can't use too much tape or cardboard . I shipped 5 last month and they all made the trip via UPS.

just find the largest cardboard you can and cut a front section and then a back and start wrapping it with clear packing tape from the family dollar store for about $1.30 a roll use 6 rolls .they hide the cheap rolls of tape in the hardware section .

Personally, I would go with UPS. The USPS seems to think its ok to just reimburse you for destroyed merchandise, but not care if it is ever handled properly to begin with.
I've ordered things that have come in crushed boxes, and when I take it to the PostOffice, they ask if it was insured. Not caring what it is.
In the past two years my wife has purchased and/or sold numerous Polish Pottery dish items. I can tell you that out of 20 odd packages four have made it in one piece. When you separate, bubble wrap, styrofoam peanut, and put it in heavy duty cardboard boxes, it should be safe to assume the item will arrive undamaged. Not so. Always get the insurance to cover the replacement cost.
With something as large as a grille? UPS

Only way I would use UPS anymore is if it's the only shipping option available. Been screwed by them three times.

I've never had a problem with USPS or FedEx.

Did you take it to UPS or a UPS store ? I ship from a UPS terminal .I sent a cowl panel to UTAH ! for $67.00

The pack and ship stores are a rip off .I have one 5 miles away and when I sent an intake to PA they wanted $239.00 ,I sent it from the UPS terminal for $89.00 with $3,000.00 insurance .

A UPS store is privately owned for profit pack and ship store ,They charge higher rates for the convenience of using their store usually in a strip mall . Always ship from a UPS/Fed Ex terminal when possible and save some $

I currently have a buyer that wants a GMC grille I have. UPS here quoted me $145 to ship. USPS wouldn't take it, said it was too large. I have no fed ex ground place over here. Looks like I can'tell ship that sort of thing, unbelievable.

UPS wanted $175 shipped from IL to GA.

I have a buddy that works for FedEx that can do $112. At least I will make some money off it.

I can vouch for Grumpy's shipping method. I bought a 67 grill from him and it showed up in Ohio - well packaged and in one piece.
