k30 dually tire options. 285/75/16 vs 255/85/16 what size spacer

Im in need of new tires for my k30 I'd like to run 255 85 16 tires if I can use then if I have to use a spacer I want to use a 285/75/16 both tires are around 33 inches but the 285 are obviously wider but they are also way cheaper and more plentiful. I found brand new off brands for around 140 a tire with a nice aggressive tread. My question is what size spacer will I need to run these. Or can i run the 255 85s without the spacer. I'm getting conflicting information. So if you have a k30 dually with 33 or bigger tires I'd really love some information

Re: k30 dually tire options. 285/75/16 vs 255/85/16 what size spacer

From your thread a couple days ago I went back and double checked, my spacers and the ones I posted pictures of are 1.5" I had 235-85, they rubbed at the bulge with less than 70/75psi.

Have you read through this thread? Let's see some 73-87 1 Ton Dually Pictures!

Specifically seen these pictures? Post #114 With his reply? Post #126

Same thread, another post about 255s. Post #371

A lot of it is going to boil down to what wheels you're running, what their width & offset are, etc.

I did look throught that thread and ive settled on 285 75 16s just because there much more available. I plan on getting falken wildpeake at3ws i was going to get dick cepek 255 85 16s but tire rack couldent get 6 to the delaware location and i wasent willing to pay the shipping. Anyone know a company that makes decent hubcentric wheel spacers for a k30 all im finding is for dodge ford or newer chevys. I got a quote of 370 for the real nice ones but i cant spend that currently although i plan to get them before i do any heavy hauling.

I bet you'll need 2.5" or 3" wide ones. Most of these spacers are nut centric and not hub centric. I put a set of 3" ones on my brother's 92 F350 which has a D80 under it and 35s. They've been on there for years with no issues. It was even a pulling truck before he took it out to California when he was in the marines. I just put 1.5" spacers on the front of my 72 and I got them off ebay for cheap. I was skeptical but they arrived and were nice quality and not some hack job. I'll try to see if I can find the name of the seller.

I have a dually with 255/85/16 and a cheap 1" spacer between them. If I do not keep the tires fully inflated or put any heavy load on the truck they will rub. You should go with the 3" spacers. They are the most common out there you will find. With the 285 tire that should work for you.

Re: k30 dually tire options. 285/75/16 vs 255/85/16 what size spacer

My tires are suposed to be here monday so im going to wait until i get them mounted to order the spacers so i know for sure what size i will need. I found the company i am going with i think a member on here pointed me in there direction there http://www.motorsport-tech.com/ they can make them in steel or aluminium. I will be ordering up some steel ones as soon as i figure out what size i need. They dont list earlier than a 88 chevy but they said its no problem to custom make them the size i need. There customer service has been great so far and i feel there prices were very fair for a quality made in the usa product.

I got my tires and mounted them up by hand. What a ***** that was. I ordered up a set of steel 2 inch spacers i think they will be enough. I layed a peice of 2x2 box tubing between the rims and there was tons of room they are just under 1/2 inch from touching rim to rim i just mounted them with low air and squeezed them together with the lig nuts so i could see how it looked. Its not tagged and wont be driven until i get the spacers in. Heres some pics hopefully i can get the new rockers on over the weekend.

I love these tires. Still need to paint those wheel plates or whatever there called. If i get the flat style lug nuts anyone know if i can just take those plates off?

Those plates are to help center the wheel to the hub. I have in the past taken them off when running a ford wheel and I used acorn type lug nuts to center the wheel. Those tires look really nice. That's a nice truck you have too!
