82 C10 Gas tank replacement?

Gents,
Its that time for me to replace my side gas tank on my 82 C10. The question that I have is, do they sell a gas tank that has the hole in the side where the bed is? Meaning not being right under the cab. This way if I ever need to replace the sending unit again I will not have to drop the tank, instead I will rather just unbolt the bed and move it to get to the sending unit. Man this would be great, I have a bad sending unit right now. So I never know when I am about to run out of gas. I have been filling up every few days to make sure that I do not run out. Also if you all know of a gas tank that is baffled that woul be awesome also.

Re: 82 C10 Gas tank replacement?

No tanks with senders in the side.
The same tank hangers fit both 16 & 20 gal tanks.
"long" 8' beds = 16 or 20 gal tanks. No reason to not get a 20 gal tank even if your original is the 16.
"short" 6' beds = 16 gal tanks only

The 20 gallon tank senders should be under the front of the bed. I can see mine looking down through the area between the bed and the cab. If you have a short box truck you can only fit a 16 gallon tank. I'm not sure whether the sender is under the cab on the 16 gallon tanks. Someone else with more experience may pipe up on those.

1987-1991 RV series TBI tanks should have some baffles. They have the same sender opening and the same filler hose diameter so they are a drop in replacement for the 81-86 tanks.

Not to hijack the thread, but I had assumed they were all baffled.....is it not true for earlier tanks?

Not the originals. That's why they slosh when you stop. My 69 Dodge Polara didn't have baffles either. The tank behind the seat in my F250 doesn't either and I guarantee the 67 Dodge doesn't.
No reason the aftermarket would install baffles in tanks that didn't come with them originally.

Re: 82 C10 Gas tank replacement?

I had to order a 87 16 gal tank in my 82 when I did my ls swap . If it was not a 87 tank it was not baffled . The earlier ones was not baffled . They were carb engines and not needed .
