fuel gauge help

ok so my fuel gauge wont work. but if i pull the wire off my tank and ground it, the fuel gauge goes all the way up. what am i missing here?.

Have you pulled the sending unit and checked it out? The floats are notorious for disintegrating.

try running a separate ground wire from the sender to the body of the truck
