too much power steering assist
I have a 1985 Chevy 350 with power steering. It has too much power assist on the steering. I can freely spin the steering wheel. WHAT IS THE FIX ??

I read something on here somewhere that the newer pumps have that effect maybe an older pump will fix it maybe someone who knows for sure can help more

Here's your issue. You probably have a 68 PS box. The 68-72 PS gearbox was 4 1/2 turns lock to lock (LTL). Later models went to a different ratio in the PS Gearbox, it is 3 1/2 turns LTL. The 68-72 has always been too soft or mushy for me, but even more so since most modern cars use R&P. I used a 76 box in mine and it feels much better to me. The original was so easy to turn in these trucks you could do it with your pinky. Keep in mind that if you go to a later box, they changed the hose fittings at some point and you will want to have the right ones. The hex nut on the back of the pump is interchangeable. There are some good threads on this if you do a search.
