SB350 Removal

Hey guys. Looking for a little insight on my first time small block removal. I couldn't find a definite answer when I searched last night... but I'm sure it's an easy one for most on here.

I have a '72 K20 4wd with an SM465 4spd. I'm taking the motor out for various reasons, but want to know if the bolts in the pic below have to be removed before I start pulling and prying the engine away from the bell housing.

I stopped working on it last night. All other bolts are out and the motor and bell housing have separated 3/16-1/4" just from having the hoist up a little and pulling back. Before I actually try to get it a part with some muscle, I want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.

nope, those are the pressure plate bolts. The whole clutch assembly will come out attached to the engine.

you will need clearence to move the engine forward several inches to clear the tranny input shaft comming out of the clutch disc though. will have to take it up to clear xmember and motor mounts before pulling forward...

Plenty of clearance. I think I have a couple inches to spare

If you remove the 6 bolts that hold the bell housing to the engine & remove the starter, the engine will come forward & come on out. Its a good idea to put a jack stand under the trans. with 1-2in. clearance as the back end will drop some.

I had some time to pull the motor all the way out. It was pretty easy after talking with you guys and knowing that those bolts wouldn't hold me up. Thanks again. I have more questionso and will post up tomorrow.
