Question Re: Lift gate supports

I too am interested in long term reports on this conversion. I would pass on it if they turn out like the ones on my S10 Blazer that go bad every 18 months. The WMB will be my daily driver and the hatch will see plenty of use. Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Lift gate supports

I did this conversion a year or two ago. They were very hard at first to close they seam better this year. Either way they are much safer than the original design.

Re: Lift gate supports

We just installed the ones from mcmaster website and the ball studs included did not work in our factory holes. We had to acquire the ball studs from gas pedal mounts. However we got them and still wish we could find some struts a little longer. Ours are the 20.12" long extended and 50lbs a piece lift the gate perfectly. We also installed the tailgate straps but they weren't long enough to let the tailgate open all the way. Any reasolution? We got the straps from ebay for 1968-91 suburban straps.

Re: Lift gate supports

Here's a link to the McMaster PN I used. Can't believe I waited as long as I did for this retrofit. Works perfectly and no issue to date.

My OE hatch hinges never worked right so I've been using a 2X4 to keep the door from dropping on my head. Finally sourced some gas struts from McMaster: http://www.mcmaster.com/#gas-struts/=10gvykk and now the hatch stays up by itself!
