The year is 1985 chevy, 305 V8 with a TH350 transmission. I plan to work on the truck tomorrow.

I would highly recommend a 5 or 7 blade fan with a good quality fan clutch, and the proper shroud, along with a 180-195 thermostat. You're in Houston it gets pretty hot there, a fan clutch as mentioned will also net you more MPG.
