help with tire size please

I'm putting 17" on the truck, 17x7 fronts, and 17x9 1/2 rears,
I want the widest on the rear I can get, with a desent sidewall hieght, (no rubberband look ), and a good size on the front, about 7-8 inch tread size, and a lower profile on the front, but also no rubber band ricer look, any ideas or comment welcome. thanks. John , these are the wheels I bought

I have 17x8 and 17x9.5 on my 96 C1500.
I went with Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires, 255/60/17 on the front and 275/55/17 on the rear. As close as I could get to the original 29 inch tall tires.
I will say that I wish I would have went with a 285/60/17 on the rear (which pirelli makes), or a 305/50/17 would be perfect (which no one makes).
I did lots of browsing on tirerack.com before I decided on these tires. Selection of non-rubberband tires is not that great in the 17 inch sizes. I am very happy with the tires, a sporty look and a good ride.

Here is a pic of my truck:

John,
Those are pretty sweet, where did you order them from? If you don't mind me asking what do they run?

mazda has a decent tire and wheel calculator that lets you compare tire and wheel combos side by side.

How low does the truck sit? There is lots of combos for tires. Following is a few sizes I have seen.

2555017 F
2756017 R

2555017 F
2755017 R

2556017 F
2856017 R

Really it depends on what look, and how low the truck sits. Be careful with what backspace you use as well.

This is a picture of my 97 truck. The picture sucks because it's a picture of a picture. I didn't have a digital cam then.

Anyway, the wheels are 17x8 all around with 255/50/17 in front and 275/50/17 in rear. Tires are Nitto NT450.

Nitto's

I agree with TX Firefighter. 255/50-17 and 275/50-17, but you will need an 8 inch wheel on the front. Check out Nitto's web site. About 140.00 a piece if I remember right. p.s.,... make sure your rims will tuck!

thanks for all the responces. can anyone put a tape the there
tires, and tell me in hick terms how wide, and tall they are in inches. I'm thinking something like 12" -13" wide in back with about a 4" side wall, 26-27 inch over all hieght, and 8"-9" wide in front with about a 3" side wall, and 24" or so over all. can you get a feel for what I"m going for, this is a picture of the hooptie that there going on, its changed a little since the pic, mirrors, and a few other things, but basicly the same. thanks .John
