Looking for Suburban push button lock for tailgate
I have exhausted all my resources for a push button lock assembly for the tailgate on my 72. I don't understand why this part is not reproduced? Can someone enlighten me? I know I can't be the first one to ask this question.
Any help appreciated |

Re: Looking for Suburban push button lock for tailgate
Extremely low demand. To bring new parts to market we need a demand that covers costs.
Far fewer tailgate hatch Suburban's than Barn door Suburban & Panel trucks. We just spent a Significant sum to get barn door locks made of which barn door Suburban & Panel trucks = about 72% + of all Suburban's ( over 80,000 )made to make a complete Suburban & Panel truck Ignition, Door & Barn door lock set. Where as the tailgate hatch barely over 20,000 made. We received 100 sets of the barn door locks. 90 were keyed 69-72 OEM GM square head key, 10 were keyed with 67-68 OEM GM octagon key head. We listed these on our site in Dec. 2015 To date we've sold 1 set. How long at 1 set every 3 months or so will it take to re-coup the invest on 100 sets. QUITE a while. So if the barn door lock sets which represent 80% + of Suburban's made sell this slowly you can then imagine how quickly the tailgate version would sell. Have you considered having a locksmith look at your current lock to get it functioning?? They can re-key or repair lock cylinders in most instances. Sorry the news wasn't better just speaking the realities from our point of view. Paul @ GMCPauls Last edited by GMCPaul; 03-12-2016 at 09:37 AM. |

Re: Looking for Suburban push button lock for tailgate
Mine is not repairable without a donor, the front portion where you insert the key is missing.
Thanks for all the info, I will just have to keep my eyes out for a used one to circulate. Out of curiosity does a pre-67 push button work on the 67-72? Last edited by BaggedBurban; 03-12-2016 at 10:18 AM. |
