Scored a radio at the yard today
Found this AM/FM radio in an early 80s truck today. For the price I couldn't pass it up. I don't even know if it works, but it doesn't appear to have any water damage. Does it look close to those that came in our trucks? If I remember right, it's close.
Also, would anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for installing this in my truck? |

That's a square body radio. I don't think it's a direct fit, although it may be close. Have you tried to set it in place yet?

No I haven't tried to put it in yet. I was wondering about that though. I can return it if it doesn't fit, and there is no way in h3!! That I would cut my dash to "make it fit".

Looks like the radio face is to big. Yep don't cut that dash.

Yes, I believe it's too big. However, many people consider cutting the dash to fit the radio, but I haven't seen anyone consider cutting the radio to fit the dash. The face on that radio will come off, and with some fabrication may be able to fit into the stock opening.

I'm thinking that there's a company or a guy who makes modern electronics (radio, disk player, etc) that look and fit like OEM. The original market was for collectible cars. I cannot remember the name right now, but someone from the forum should be able to find it.

Re: Scored a radio at the yard today
It is too big, but not by much. Cutting the dash is not an option. I did think about "filing down" the face to fit, but have been busy with another more pressing project. The stereo I have in the truck works fine, but I just like the idea of the old school am/fm with the push button presets. I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money to get it to fit/work. If there is someone that knows how to do this, that would be cool.

Is $157 too much? I've been considering the selection at Brothers Trucks for my truck, but I also have something more pressing going on so haven't ordered yet.
Ammo boxes like that are at Costco now, I just got some. |

Re: Scored a radio at the yard today
The ammo boxes were "acquired" over the years while I was on active duty. I used to have one of the 25mm boxes (they're about three times the size of these small arms boxes), but I gave it to a good friend in Germany before I retired. These boxes are perfect for storing miscellaneous parts. Anyway back to the radio. I'm going to check out the suggestions

If you are just after the factory look then I would install a stock am radio (much easier to find and less money) and mount your good radio/ cd player in the glove box or under the seat.
