Yet another 67 C10

Looking to the guys that have done this many time to help us eliminate some of the guess work and mistakes.

We have recently bought a 67 C10. I have 4 anxious boys (and one Dad) looking to get some parts coming our way. We have it down to the bare frame and are looking to get the suspension designed to our needs/goals. Still need to finish a little bit of cleaning on the frame and get a coat of paint on it and start assembly.
I am trying to sift through all the information out there to see what we really "need" to meet our expectations.

Specs:
Original 6 cyl three on the tree.

Goals:
Handle well. It doesn't need to be a Corvette, but I want to have a very confident feel in corners and at highway speed.

Would really like AC. I have talked to a few guys that have mentioned that the new vintage air fits completely under the dash. I would LOVE to clean up the firewall if that is the case.

Definitely discs up front and would love to convert the old rear end to discs also, but that is probably later. Will be putting a 5 lug rear under it.

I want to set it down as low as we can with springs and spindles. No airbags. So that usually means a "c notch".

I have read some threads about getting new A arms that will really improve the handling because of adjustment capabilities.

We will probably be running 18's in the front and 20's in the rear.

Just like everybody else in the Chevy world (and some Ford guys too) we are thinking about putting an LS in it. For drivability, economy and ease of upgrades. My boys want to go with a 5 or 6 speed. I am not as convinced.

The exterior is, for now, going to stay the old finish. Till we get the drivetrain and other essentials together the way we want it.

Any advise would be appreciated.
