Question Rear Disk for Chevy 12 Bolt Rear

I am considering upgrading to Rear Disks utilizing 79-81 Cad Calipers. I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get the mounting Brackets, and if there are any stock disks available which would not require turning of the axles.

Any suggestions on this and any other issues associated with the swap would be of great interest.

Thanks, Mike

I used a Speedway Motors kit. The brackets were the weld on type and the rotors hats had to be turned to fit over the hub. I know bolt on is easier but I saved a couple hundred bucks with this kit. If I remember correctly, it was about $400.

In my opinion, that isn't a very well designed caliper bracket. Notice how it positions the caliper so that the bleeder screw is in a horizontal position. It should be postioned so it is pointing upwards so that the caliper can be bled properly. I would think it'd be nearly impossible to get all the air out of that caliper since there would be air space above the bleeder screw.

I don't like this kit for another reason. The plate caliper bracket doesn't provide enough support for the caliper. The caliper bolts are supposed to go all the way though to the wholes on the outer holes of the calipers. Then the spindle on the front should have fingers that come out and run along the top of the caliper for support. To me that looks like it would twist and cause poor braking and pad wear.

Rear disc kits are very over rated. Check out ECE's rear drum upgrade kit.
