Go to wrecking yard.
Get the stuff off a 73-87 truck.
But first read some of the threads here:

One of the board members here CaptnFab bakes an adapter plate that provides the proper mounting for the 73-87 steering gear. I used his bracket on my '66 GMC

When you get the 73-87 steering gear also grab the steering shaft from the rag joint to the slip yoke too

OK will do thanks ..... just a few more questions 1 will the shaft work with my stock column ? And 2 73-87 trucks does it matter if they are 1/2 tons or can the 3/4 ton stuff still work ? And will all this with Captain fab kit be just bolt on. Or do I need to make any mods ? Welding ECT ECT ECT

Re: need your advice on the cheapest way to convert to power steering ?

You end up cutting the shaft, the 73-87 steering box is bigger than the old manual gear.

The Captain's bracket allows bolt on application after some re-drilling. I welded my bracket on because I'm a bit OCD and have a background in welding.

His kit comes with a template and instructions. To paraphrase greatly...... I taped the template to the frame, drilled the holes, bolted the new power steering gear on, cut the steering shaft, sleeved and welded the shaft.

Re: need your advice on the cheapest way to convert to power steering ?

I am currently working on this. I am using a 1974 PS box and 1974 rag joint and lower steering shaft. I bought CaptainFab's plate. That will be joined to the original steering shaft using a DD universal joint from eBay. I will also slide the original steering column closer to the dash for more driving comfort. That will require shortening the original inner and outer steering tubes (still pending). See my BLOG in the signature below for pics.

You don't have to wait until you get a Welding machine to install the Power steering bracket, It's designed to bolt onto the frame after drilling a couple of holes.
