I am considering reproducing the 47-55 1st series and 55-59 second series gas filler grommets. I would like to know what your experiences are with the reproductions on the market today. I would like to know how long they last before they start degrading, fading, cracking or otherwise turning to crap. Our previous experiences with the 67-70 and 71-72s had been all of the reproductions sucked, with some lasting less than a month. We refused to sell them because of that. So Classic Heartbeat contacted a manufacturer, tooled up and started reproducing those two grommets. Because our manufactures are using good blends of materials we are able to offer lifetime warrantees on our grommets. They are a little more expensive, but worth every penny.

So lets hear your experiences. Good or bad. We do not want to produce a piece that will just sit on the shelf because the quality of other grommets on the market are good and nobody buys mine because they are more expensive. WES

Are we talking the filler neck at the gas cap?

Yes we are. The grommet that seals the neck to the cab. WES

O K, Then I can comment!

I built the black 55 1st series in 04 to 06
and replaced the grommet with one from the local advertisers of early AD truck parts and it lasted about a 1/2 year before it looked like s***

I can tell you I went with the expensive one that sells rubber parts only, and that was 10+ years ago and it still looks good today.
That is also when I became a fan of there products especially the door rubber and window gaskets

last month my 55 turned over 70 000 miles and it is here in So Arizona and driven daily

I am sure there are some post from back them that I started to complain about there product and which one I replaced it with !

Most all of them 47 up to 72 rot or tear quickly.

I am finding this to be the case with all gas filler grommets. That is with the exception of solidaxel. I would like to know where he got that grommet to see if they still have them or? WES

I bought mine from LMC and have had no issues.....however in the last three months my truck does not see that much of the outside. I keep it in the garage all the time.

Ah a reminder, I need to order one of your filler pieces for my 71 Wes.

For those of you who don't know Wes has a shop outside of Olympia and sells pretty much hand selected top quality pieces for GM trucks.

I bought mine in '95 or '96 from Classic Industries. Around 2001 or 2002 I started seeing cracks. I try to keep it out of sunlight and I don't spill fuel on it so I think that's not much time before it started looking bad. Classic has (or had) a lifetime warranty but I've been reluctant to try again.

Wes, I thought about you and this very subject today. I have a brand new one that has been on my un-finished truck for about three months, stored inside and today I noticed that it's cracked all around. What a joke. Please make these. I need to buy one of your good ones for my '71 as well.

I just checked my filler neck the other day on the 55 and it is still soft and sealed to the neck, so no fuel has leaked out and into the carpet on the inside of the truck.
I have been VERY happy with the "Second one" I placed on the 55 and the newer one on the 53 is the same, and all is good from the same supplier of rubber products

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
