Hood swap

Just thought I'd ask before attempting. I am building a 64 GMC short box for my daughter. The hood sides are crap. Question is can I take the front section from my hood and put it into a similar year Chevy hood. Looks like it will work but thought I would ask in case anyone has tried this and it didn't.

Re: Hood swap

From what I have seen it should work. But I have never done it so my opinion might not count for much.

It can be done, but it is a lot of work.

Re: Hood swap

most hoods are interchangeable between many years. I forget all years that are compatible but it doesn't take long to find out. the 60 61 hoods are considered ugly hoods and can change out with 63-? not sure on end year. do whats fun and cheaper. oldchevytrucks.com has a lot of historical data like that.

Re: Hood swap

60-61 hoods are identical (and NOT ugly!!!) and 62-66 are identical.

I agree. IMO it would be better to try and find a better GMC hood.

Re: Hood swap

I will keep my eye out for a GMC hood. If I do find a screaming deal on a Chevy though I will try it. I'll post results.
