Thanks Lock for the link, but it looks like highwinger's solution to my problem was buying a different brand. I hope it doesnt come to that.

What brand did you buy? Mine were ridiculously tight when I redid them. So much so, that it took 2 people to get them closed and locked. Thankfully, after a few weeks in the summer, they now open and close beautifully.
