shopping list advice
First thing first. This is for a 70' GMC with the 350SB fully stock (the whole truck not just the motor). Second, thank you in advance for any help/insight/advice that any of you can provide.
So I was reading another thread (as you can see in the tabs on the picture) and it got me started on my shopping list. Now like the guy in the other thread, I just want to wake the motor up without breaking the bank or going toooo far into it just yet. So I am looking for the bolt on mods that work without having to change the core too much but still have room to add later on like Cylinder Heads and all the internals. So far I have whats on the list in mind and I know I will want to do a dual exhaust system to go with the ram horns (although I'm not sure what will match up with them, nothing on the suggested parts list to go with them). Also want to do an Air filter to go with the new carb and intake manifold but there are sooooooooooooooo many options for that carb I was hoping to get some insight from anyone on here that may have the same set up and what filter they use with it. Finally in the long short of it, I honestly don't even know if all these components will work together, so if somebody see's something there that just doesn't make sense or maybe I'm missing something to make them fit please let me know |

Have you considered one of the "kits" from companies like Edelbrock that includes the whole top end, or top end without heads, that sort of thing? Then you know they're designed to work together and even, except for the compression ratio, you'll know how much power it'll make.

HAHA I just added all the parts individually from Summit. Cant believe I didn't see that on there. Oh well at least if I do it individually I can do it over time. Just need to find a Carb, HEI kit and exhaust set up to go with it now.

If you're going to sink a bunch of money into this, you might consider going with a retrofit hydraulic roller cam. I also like AFR heads quite a bit.

define a bunch. I want to keep it under $3000 initially which the way my cart sits right now I am at $2000. I'm sure that there are a few other things I am missing aside from the HEI but for now I am trying to stick with the top end

With that kind of a budget I'd be looking at an LS swap, unless you're dead set on keeping it old school. Heads and cam are where you'll be glad you spent extra money.
I had a voodoo hydraulic retrofit roller in my 383 powered chevelle, and AFR heads, and that old thing is now running 7.70s in the 1/8 mile with 3.31 gears and drag radials, with full interior. The car can be driven to the track. Has a dual plane intake and a "tiny" 650 holley DP.
