Wait till ya cross the rockies. They are waiting for you, especially on the multiple reservations
I'm jealous, looks like fun.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Muhammad Ali was an amazing human being

Compassiionate
Humanitarian
Singing
Dreaming
Big talking
Poet

That was one bad dude when he fought

When you enter the museum an escalator takes you up 5 floors
Looking over the the Ohio river
You then walk back down
Floor by floor, viewing his life

Check out the Kipling poem "IF"
They ran a video to this when you entered.
It was so powerful yet compassionate

They also had his West Coast Choper
Displayed right when you walk in
10' long. And 110hp

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Early this morning. We started at Louisville Slugger Museum
Which is still also the factory

This place cuts down 40 thousand trees to widdle down one baseball season worth of bats
Sustainability (of course)

Back in the day they made 6 million a year by hand
Now they only have to pump out 2 mil since aluminum bats came in to fashion
And they have computerized lathes and cnc
machines. To do it

A very informative tour that they wouldn't let me take pictures of

But outside you could swing an authentic bat used (and some signed)
By your favorite player.

All you had to do is wear their special gloves
That's B's hand to the left. He pretended to hit homers with several
Including a signed 'Ricky Henderson '

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

By the end of the day we even had the cops passing us
Just chillin takin in the country
And not pushing it to hard
We've got to many miles. Yet

Thank god they don't really look at your tags when you are out of state

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Couldn't stay awake last night long enough to post our last stop

Boarman's Chevy Bel Air Showroom
About 3 in the afternoon I called and the guy on the phone said "dad should be here till about 5" which I replied"I think we should be there around 4"

We rolled in a couple minutes after 4 but weren't really sure where to park
It was after all a used car dealership
So I walked in the place and the guy at the desk introduced me to Dad

said he bought the dealership for $500 bucks back in the 60s
Showed us his original #6 dealer license plate for the state of Illinois

Mr. Boarman walked us up to his museum, but when we walked inside it was all impalas and 3 novas. I asked"where are the bel airs?" He replied"several years ago I saw they were getting soft in the market, so I sold them all"

Then he decided to buy original low mileage original paint impalas
when I told him he needs to change the sign on the front of the garage
He said yes I do, I just put those sticker letters up there by original ones
That day Impala, in the mean time

In the next hour and half he showed us his collection
Which included Over 600 die cast metal cars Still all in there boxes
There was even newspaper articles about him
How he built the only theater in town and gave it to the city

Such a nice man
That visit was so cool

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Here he is with his 59
A bit nicer than the one I questioned about in post #49
All original with 10,000 miles on it
He said when he picked it up it had 800
