Re: 15x11

I have a 69 CST10 396. I also have the original 12 bolt 6 lug rear end. I always had trouble hooking up even with 10 inch slicks. When the tree went green, the back tires would loose traction and smoke off the line. Very frustrating. I needed more meat back there. I took two of the 15x8 factory steel rally wheels with 4 inch back spacing and had them widen to 12 inch with a 7 inch back spacing. Now I can use a 15 inch slick. I didn't narrow the rear or modify the frame. I cut my wheel tubs in half and cut my bed in towards the frame. The wheels fit over the drums and cleared every thing with room to spare. I originally wanted to widen my wheels to 14 inch's and use a 8 inch back space. Someone talked me out of it saying I would have clearance problems. He was so wrong. I mounted the 12 inch wide wheels and tires and had lots of room for my idea. I'm still going to have two more wheels widen to 14 inch's as I original planed. With the 10 inch slick, the inside sidewall of the tire would rub the side of the wheel tub around a corner. So there really isn't much room for big tires back there unless you do some modifications.
