Exhaust?

okay so on my 69 k10 i need new headers (well specifically the drivers side one) and was wondering, what is the best type for cheap, mpg, sound, and hp, basically my exhaust is true duals, and soon to be glass packs and dumping under the bed,

I'm running Heddman hedders on a 350 in a '71 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with manual transmission [SM465/NP205]. It's at stock height, I think. I did have to have a machinist bend the ''ears' of the Z-Bar to clear the downtubes for the lower clutch pushrod to swing. Only drawback is having to pull passenger side header whenever I replace the starter, but that does not happen often.
Can't remember Heddman's p/n since this was 17 years ago that I changed out the PO's blown engine. I was on a budget but didn't want any Asian import parts. Also went with a Carter AFB [pre-Edelbrock] and Weiand 8004 intake [pre-Holley buyout]. H-pipe and dual exhausts thru turbo mufflers exiting behind rear tires
Still running.

Re: Exhaust?

I just replaced a set of hedman headers in my 70. They are for a C20/C30 but also cross over to a 350 conversion in a CJ-5 or 7. The collector is next to the frame so they are plenty high.

Re: Exhaust?

Have you looked into SUMMIT-brand headers? I am running the ceramic coated ones in my '68 for four years now and no issues, around $250 I think. Just put the unpainted ones for $130 in my '69 work truck, you just have to paint them yourself. They fit great and sound good. I don't know who manufactures them but they are very solid.

Re: Exhaust?

I did Hedman Elite Thermal coated headers for my 4x4 build. I like em!

Re: Exhaust?

I think the regular headman headers are about $130 a set. That is your best bet.

Re: Exhaust?

So my neighbor has a set of short tube headers for 75 bucks, will they fit on this truck?

Re: Exhaust?

Shorties are no better than stock manifolds... if you want real headers, get the long tubes. Headman Hedders are good headers for the money.

I'd rethink glasspacks dumping under the cab...

it currently has longtubes on it, just well one is broke, and looking for options on headers if i cant save em. and i was thinking it having dual glasspacks, with them dumping out right before the rear fender, or them dumping right behind the rear fender, as i have some salvagable pipe from the old exhaust.

Re: Exhaust?

Personally, I would spend the money on the 2 1/2" rams horns and move on down the road. I replaced my Heddmans with the 'vette manifolds and could no be happier.

I'm going out of my way to try and get a set of big block repro 'vette manifolds installed on the 427 I'm building for my 69 short step. Should make plenty of power, at least for my goal of 350 whp and be quiet and leak/maintenance free.
