72 Rear Disk

Anyone who has used a rear disk conversion kit. I'm looking at various manufactures. They seem to range from $275.00 to over $800.00. I guess the right stuff one is cheapest, but doesn't even have a provision for E brake. It's probably Chinese junk for parts. Doe's anyone have any experience in this area?

My experience with rear discs is only with oem setups. The draw back is the parking brakes. even the factory setups leave a lot to be desired. More trouble than it is worth in my opinion. Your front brakes do 70 % of braking anyway so unless you are road racing drum brakes will stop just fine. I may feel this way due to living in New England where the park brake stuff just rusts and siezes . My 98 truck is one of the last rear drum trucks they made and I have no desire to swap to discs.

I had rear discs on my '67 and can honestly say there was no detectable difference in the braking performance over the drums.

Thats because you didn't *need* more brakes. Discs dissipate and stand up to heat better, and have a higher potential stopping force.

Where is the park brake? It is required in my state for safety inspection.

Never mind on second look I see it hanging below without the cable.

I have this exact same set up on my blazer, captainfab brackets, Camaro calipers and Impala SS rotors, and they work great! I even used the Camaro park brake cables, just had to move the forward mount on the trailing arms back a little and got an intermediate cable that was the right length. Way better than spending $800 imo.

that's my entire point. there is virtually zero performance gain with rear disc brakes on one of these body style trucks. the weight bias front to rear negates any performance gains that rear discs might offer.

larger front brakes is a different topic all together.
