What HP rating for this Goodwrench 350

I replaced the 350 in my truck in 1998 but I don't have any info on the engine specs. The original part # was 12514695 later changed to 12580974 by GM.

It's a 4-bolt HD tow engine but that's all that I have.

Can anyone ID the HP rating of this engine or give me a heads up on how to find out? Internet searches have not yielded any info on this and GM doesn't respond to my requests.

Re: What HP rating for this Goodwrench 350

There are 2 version of the pre 86 goodwrench 350 engines. One is the 195hp with a smaller cam, however you can get up to 260hp out of this engine with different add ons. The other is the 290hp with a larger cam. Most people opt for the 290hp version. These are both 4 bolt main blocks.

Thanks for the information. Is there a way to tell which version I have?

Look for the number on the back near the top of the block on the drivers side near the firewall. Can be seen from looking from the top.
