whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

I used too install adavances wearever pads customers vehicles but recently started using the duralast brand its a further drive for me too get them but usually they are cheaper.

The wearevers dont seem too last as long and the brake dust is from them is terrible.

Ive had napa pads they are ok but ive used some that seemed too wear out rotors in short order.(could been junk rotors too).

I only have a few auto stores near me so store selection is limited. Mail ordering wagners is my best choice if i have the time too wait.

Just curious what you all prefer?

Re: whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

Order up some EBC Yellow Stuff pads. (cheap - no)

Insane braking capability compared to the crud "high end"/premium pads from AZ or Advance. I switched from the AZ premium Gold pads to the EBC Yellows.

Also I use the rotors from AZ with out a problem with the EBC pads. Note that the new rotors will not have the GM grove in the middle.

... Add some ATE 200 brake fluid in the mix and you will almost think these trucks can stop

FWIW I have a new BNIB set of Wagner Thermo Quiets sitting here if someone wants to come by and take them. Beer donations accepted

Not a paid promotion at all, but every car I own now runs EBC brakes. Yellow or Red pads depending. A little more dust but worth it.

Note that I have had terrible luck with the Hawk HPS pads. Insane dust and always squeaky. But they perform very well, just those drawbacks are too much for the street. If you like the Hawk pads you will like the Yellows more because less dust and quiet w/o giving up any braking performance.

TMI?

Re: whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

I only use GM on any of my GM vehicles. They have the absolute best combination of wear and stopping power of any I have tried. Cheap pads/shoes wear out too fast and "lifetime" pads won't stop.

I just bought some fronts for my '07 Tahoe on Ebay from JC Whitney. They were the best price and are definitely genuine GM pads.

Are you running everything else stock (calipers, master cylinder, brake booster)?

Re: whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

I run the EBC's when I have some extra money, great pads and rotors. When I don't have money I run Power Stop's, less expensive than EBC but with really good braking.

Re: whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

I had all 4 drilled and slotted rotors on my zr2 with ebc green stuff pads. the rotors lasted 2yrs they got warped.
I blindly placed the blame on the ebc pads.
Then last summer i did work on a mazda 3. It also had badly warped rotors and yellow ebc's but these were really worn out also.

Im not a big fan of ceramic pads.

As dum dum as it sounds i never considered gm pads.hmmmm

When im doing the work on other peoples cars i tend too stick with the local "advanzones" stores that way if i have a problem they are close enough for returning for the correct pieces. Ordering is usually reserved for my own fleet since i can take the time.

Yes, everything else is stock. There is no problem with the truck calipers IMO. They offer a large piston area with good sized pads. Again the biggest helper is good pads. Don't waste the money on cross drilled non-sense that adds zero braking capability and will crack.

To add, there are a number of GM pads that are rebranded excellence (Ferrodo for the Brembo kits)! You just have to know what you are getting as some of the GM pads are trash. Just be careful when getting GM and the different levels.

Good article on performance levels of some higher end pads:

Because 20-50' matter!!!

Re: whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

I used el-cheapos and regretted it. My rotors too warped but not from the cheap pads, more from the brake system not being right. Seems that I didn't have the rears working due to the combi-valve being stuck. Got that freed up and replaced the pads with NAPA gold...a bit dusty but stop very well.

Re: whats your favorite brake pads/shoes

Im using napa ultra premium shoes on the truck and its a daily driver, no problems at all. Ive always used ebc hh pads on my harleys, no complaints either. Mini cooper with napa ultra premium, I have alot of brake dust on the wheels.
