Turn signal switch for a '62
I'd like to install an OEM type turn signal switch in my '62 C10. It came to me with nothing in the steering column and the universal type clamped on the column. My search of the aftermarket suppliers has shown switch assemblies for '63 on, but not the '62. Do any of you know where I can find a complete turn signal switch assembly for a '62, or do you know if a later one can be adapted to fit?

Re: Turn signal switch for a '62
60-62 and 64-66 were the same according to the parts book. 63 had a one year switch. Obviously they had problems with these.

Re: Turn signal switch for a '62
60/62 the SWITCH was NOT in the top of the column there was a mechanism with canceling and then a cable down to the "switch" an the lower portion of the column...... Here is the switch
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aw...N44aAtgv8P8HAQ Best thing to do is find a 64/66 column and switch it out Last edited by jtrichard; 08-31-2016 at 03:54 PM. |

Re: Turn signal switch for a '62
I replace the switch and couldn't find a cable for the 60-61 column. I used a Impala cable and cur it to size. If you look at my build I have some pics of me replacing the cable and switch.

Re: Turn signal switch for a '62
This vehicle is a bit of a Frankentruck, with surprises around every corner. After reading your posts, it dawned on me that this might not be the OEM '62 steering column. So I popped the wheel off and discovered there actually are some guts in there. Can you guys tell me the year of the switch and/or steering column from these pics?

Re: Turn signal switch for a '62
I removed the switch. The plastic part appears to be riveted to a metal chassis, which holds one of the steering shaft bearings. Can you guys tell me which year(s) they used this type?

Re: Turn signal switch for a '62
That looks like the switch used in GMCs (chevy is all plastic no pot metal) like 63?... NOT riveted take the Phillips screw out and the cancel cam comes out

The closest replacement I could find was a re-pop of the '63 Chevy switch. It bolts in and for the most part looks useable. But since it's all plastic, it doesn't offer as stable of a retainer for the steering shaft upper bearing. This lack of a solid bearing mount (combined with the odd angle that the shaft runs in order to connect with the CPP power steering box) is causing the steering shaft to sit off-center in the column. Have others faced this problem and found a solution for improving the support of the upper steering shaft when using an all plastic TS switch? |
