Battery Disconnect Switches
I am trying to figure out if I want to install a battery disconnect switch so that I can Disconnect my battery and lock my hood for extra security.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Has anyone used a Battery Dr. Automatic Battery Disconnect Switch? It allows you to disconnect your battery using a key fob. |

Re: Battery Disconnect Switches
I use a Taylor #1033 in my race car. It's a durable, quality piece.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switches
Ditto, Taylor is quality stuff. Just be sure and look at the 'CONTINUOUS DUTY" rating of what you get. The Summit house brand switch is rated at 20 amps ,, the Taylor is rated at 180. There is a HUGE difference in the cheap ones continuous vs momentaty peak

Re: Battery Disconnect Switches
An old hotrodder at a drive in cruise nite told me to disconnect the gound side. He told me it's safer because current isnt a factor...I disconnect my ground terminal at the battery before I lock my hood. I used to undo the hot terminal but it seemed like the battery post would get oxidation on it and I was always having to clean it with a wire brush.

That said, if it were me, I'd spend the extra $3 or $4 and get the Taylor #1033, just in case I needed the ability to interrupt another circuit separately in the future. |
