Throttle cable bracket

My 72 K/20 has a 350 with a 1406 eddy on it. I believe it's got the factory quadrajet cable bracket on it. Problem I'm having is keeping the bracket from rotating toward the front of the engine and dropping my pedal to the floor. The return spring pulls it forward. I tightened up the bracket but eventually it just ends up on the floor. Any suggestions?

Have you tried putting a lighter spring on it? It really doesn't take much to hold the throttle plates closed. The original bracket should have a small ear on it that bends down over the back of the carb base to keep it from rotating. Check and see if is missing or bent out straight....

You know, I noticed that tab but didn't think much about it. It is straight down if I remember right. I'll check into that further this afternoon. Thanks for pointing that out!

Here's what I came up with. Here's the bracket I've got. Note I threaded the pin that holds bracket centered to 1/4-20. Long story short the mounting hole is wallered out some and the pin doesn't stay close to the carb to keep it centered. My welder is down for the count right now, so I threaded a nut on the pin and ground down the side that rests on the carb to tighten things up. I also bent the throttle return spring tab up so the spring wouldn't interfere with the fast idle cam on my carb.(still bent in the picture)

It seems to be holding so far. If not then I will repair the hole and try and again.

I've had trucks with springs going forward and back. Must have been for this reason. I think my present '72 was that way, and it had a Eldy Q-Jet copy on it. I ended up putting an aftermarket one on up front.
