Brake line questions on a front disc swap.

Put disc brakes on my 64 that I got through pro performance. Went to hook up the brake lines to the calipers and the line sizes are different. As I never have messed with brake lines before is there an adapter that I need to make this work or what do I do? I have a duel master and proportioning valve. I have never done one of those either so if it has something to do with that please let me know. I have the value mounted to the master but no other lines hooked up. Please advise.

Re: Brake line questions on a front disc swap.

you run 3/16 lines to the front if you happened to have a 73-87 truck around have a look at the lines at the proortioning valve. someone here should have a diagram of it. look up in the FAQ section and you should find it

So if I understand correctly. When you add a prop valve you run new lines from the valve to the front calipers so you can run bigger lines and then use the existing line for the rear?

From the proportioning valve, you run 3/16" lines to each front hose for the caliper. Then a single 1/4" line goes to the rear hose which drops down to the differential. Then at the tee at the end of the hose, there are two 3/16" lines that go to each wheel clyinder.

Awesome. Thanks hopefully it will be as easy as it sounds. Rent me a flailing tool get a tube bender, tube and fittings. Then see what happens.

Re: Brake line questions on a front disc swap.

With new and empty lines, you will want to let the system gravity bleed for a while. If you try to bleed the system by pumping the pedal and opening each bleeder, more than likely the prop valve will do it's job and block the side you open first. Then you will have trouble getting either the front or back to bleed properly and get a good pedal. There is also a tool for locking the valve in place until the system is bled.

Re: Brake line questions on a front disc swap.

So fill the master full and leave the bleed valves open and just let gravity do the work? I have a pneumatic brake bleeder, will that work also or is gravity best?

You'd be best to follow the Captain's directions--imo, over a weekend when you'll have more patience on the slow flow.

Re: Brake line questions on a front disc swap.

I've never use a pneumatic bleeder, so I do not know if it would move the valve in the prop valve. I would just open up all the bleeders and wait until you get at least some flow out of each. Of course you will want to keep the master full. Then after you get some flow, try your pneumatic bleeder.
