First project 68 C10

Hi everyone. I'm new to the group and new to old truck ownership, so looking for help/guidance on my 1968 C10. I want to lower the truck. But how do I know how much it should be lowered to attain desired look? What kit do I get? With very little experience, is this something I can do myself? And I want smoothie wheels with wide white wall tires. Reccomendations on both? How big on the wheels can I go? W/o major modifications. Thank you for your input!

Welcome from East Texas! Just a word of warning, everyone here loves pictures so you better post some of your truck!
You can find a TON of info and vendors for lowering your truck here by using the search function. Also there is an entire section here just for suspension.
Also, the more info about your truck the better. Like do you have rear leaf springs or coil springs?

Re: First project 68 C10

Welcome! Very nice truck. I feel like I've seen it before. Was it on Craigslist for a while? I may have seen it there on my daily searches. You asked several general questions, and my best response would be to search the forum as several posters already suggested. As you would expect, there are drop options from mild to wild, and the work that goes into getting to wild escalates very quickly. You can, however, knock 5-6" off the ride height fairly easily with some readily available "bolt-on" parts (springs, spindles). If you want to get rid of all the wheel gap on a static drop, you have to take it a bit further (which is actually what I'm doing right now to mine). With drop blocks and a c-notch in the rear, and a pancaked front cross member you can drop it another 2", but this is where you start to get into cutting stuff up. If you want to go any further, you're going to need some serious chassis modifications and you will have to switch over to air suspension. For whichever setup you choose, there are many threads detailing the process. This forum is an indispensable resource.

Doesn't look like a project to me. Either way congrats.

ECE is the way to go according to this forum.

Re: First project 68 C10

The exact amount of drop varies from truck due to spring sag over time. Have a look in the static drop pics thread below. Most list the tire size and the amount of advertised drop so you can compare where the axle centerline ends up on the body.

Check out early classic enterprises. They have numerous pics of our trucks with different drops to see what you might like.
