Adjusting door alignment

I am guessing there is no easy way to adjust your door. I have a 79 c10. I need the top to go forward about 1/4". Fresh build and get her up to speed and notice some bad wind noise. This adjustment would be perfect. Any ideas?

Re: Adjusting door alignment

I had to adjust mine a bit too. You can loosen up the bolts on the door hinge and the door can be moved in towards the cab or out and away from the cab. The bolts behind the fender will allow movement towards the fender and vise versus. The only problem with that one is the fact it is harder to reach those bolts.

Mine had to be adjusted in towards the cab to help reduce wind noise. It did help but when I got my vents rebuilt, that made the most difference. I also replaced all my seals & felts on the door and cab opening.

Re: Adjusting door alignment

How did you get to the bolts? Looks really tight. I did a complete frame off, new felts and rebuilt the vents. You can tell it is the door.

These are the bolts on the door, that I'm talking about. Just loosen them and the door will move in & out towards the cab. The OTHER bolts are behind the fender, the fender has to come off for that adjustment. So Needless to say, I never did that one. But, I didn't really need to make that adjustment on my doors. They needed to go in towards the cab.

Re: Adjusting door alignment

I took my front fenders off then aligned the doors to the cab opening. Reinstalled fenders and aligned then to doors and cab. And when I got bored I chased my tail.

Re: Adjusting door alignment

I would really love to not have to take the fender off. Would LOVE to not have to do that

I've done mine so often they have zippers on them now. And what an opportunity to clean everything up.

Re: Adjusting door alignment

Would have been a ton easier before you put the fenders on, but think how little time it takes compared to how much time you will enjoy the results.

Re: Adjusting door alignment

Hows the gap where the door meets the back of the cab? If you want to move just the top of the door forward you can place a shim between the lower hing and the door.

You know, that's not a bad idea, easy to try. I will look, but thinking back the gap at the bottom of the door is good, just the top of the door needs to go over. It looks good from about 3-5' but you get close, you can see the gap is a little off. I would be OK with the looks, but you add the wind it just frustrates me.

Looks like this may have worked. Will see if it helps with the air. Took me about 5 minutes last night. Found some thick shims, a little modification and bam. She moved. Gaps still look good from a couple feel, but now the wind noise should be reduced. Thanks

Re: Adjusting door alignment

Personally, I think the wind noise is "built in". The gap in the upper front part of the door is presented to the wind/air in a less than 90 degree angle, also, look down through hood opening back behind the inner fender, think what the air is doing in this space at speed. Some models had some kind of rubber air dam just ahead of the door, I have no idea how well it worked. I have a big piece of heavy felt and will cut off a strip and stuff in the void on leading edge of door to see if that helps. More later.
