Why would they make two different sizes

of brake shoes for the same 68 C10? They have two different widths. Is it due to the length of bed? It makes no sense at all to me and how do I figure out what was original? Thanks all.

Many but not all of the axles were Eatons either the HO52 or the heavier HO72 which was generally found in the heavier trucks. The brake sizes were different because the assumption is that the heavier trucks need more braking ability.

I see. I would have thought the heavier axles would have gone on the c20" or 4 wheel drives.

This theory applies to late model trucks and vans as well.

A C10 should have a 12-bolt GM axle, not an Eaton. I think there were Kelsey-Hayes brake systems and also Wagner brake sytems used, that may be the difference.

I changed the front drums and shoes a couple years ago and they didn't even ask me what size. The shoes are now cracked up in all directions so I want to make sure what I a running is correct. My rears I haven't done so I can do them to and use them as a reference for size. I think all 4 are the same. Thanks everybody.

If I remember right, the 11x2 drums are used with wheel cylinders that have two mounting bolts, and the 11x2.5 drums have wheel cylinders with a single mounting bolt.
