Removing truck lift

What was/is the common method for lifting the front of our leaf spring trucks? Both of my trucks have small lifts on them ....3"-4" and you can see the blocks under the springs in the rear. However, neither truck has blocks in the front. Did they just replace the leaf springs with lift springs up front? If so, why didn't they do this for the rear too? Suppose I wanted to bring them back to stock height? I assume I would just remove the blocks from the rear but I would have to find stock front leafs to get them level, right? What adjustments do I need to make for the driveshafts if bringing them back to stock height?

Thanks,
Jimmie

Re: Removing truck lift

You are correct, you must replace the front leaf springs with stock springs & remove the rear blocks. It is common to use blocks in the rear because it is less expensive than replacing the rear springs. As far as the drive shafts, longer ones are not needed for a 4" lift or less. (as long as you don't do some serious wheelin" & get all crossed up)

Re: Removing truck lift

Sdtrucksprings as well as others sell stock height new springs by the way. It's nice to go this route because you don't have to worry about sourcing sagging wore out 40+ year old springs.

Re: Removing truck lift

Can pretty easily tell if the front springs are "lift" springs just by looking. If they have much of an arch at all, they are aftermarket - the stock ones were darn near flat/horizontal.

Re: Removing truck lift

Thanks guys. I just prefer the stock height of the k20 personally. Thanks for the info and source for springs!

Re: Removing truck lift

My stock 69 K20 has 2 leaf front springs (negative arch) with a 1 inch block in the rear, from the factory. So a block will most likely be required in the rear to level the truck out, even with stock front springs.
