Brake Issues??? I'm stumped
Ok as some of you know I converted my 70 to power disc brakes when I dropped it. I put a reman master and booster on it. The truck stops, but it doesn't stop like my 71 did. I thought I had a vacuum problem so I installed a vacuum canister. Well the pedal doesn't return all the way up and leaves the stoplights on. I changed the spring thinking the old was worn out... still does it.
My question is if I have the pedal rod mis-adjusted will it cause this? I have it adjusted out a good ways. or do I have a mal-functioning booster? |

Some where I heard that there is a hole on the brake pedal for manual brakes and a different one for power brakes. If this is true, did you use the correct hole?

Which hole? where the pedal rod bolts to? I only recall seeing one on my pedal. Do I need to swap the whole pedal assembly?

It is a rod adjustment problem, I went through the same problems with my '72 when I changed it from manual to power brakes. Adjust your rod to where it is longer and it should fix this, mine is adjusted almost all of the way out.

I don't have to many threads left...I have it out further than i thought it should be now, but I'm willing to try it. Would this also account for the mushy feel the brakes have?

my K20 was like that when i first put it together-- had to extend the rod out. did you use the PB or manual rod? i think you need a longer one for the PB

Yeah I used the PB rod...I'll adjust it out more next weekend and see what it does... I just love laying on my back in front of the seat....

be careful not to adjust it too far, one day i got in my truck started it put my foot on the brake and it went to the floor, little scary, had a buddy hold the 2 together on the way back to the shop, it was interesting, haha

Yeah, laying on your back in the seat with your head under the dash sucks!!! Blue, there is no way that the manual rod would work, they are totally different. Suicide-D the mushy feel is probably either air in the lines still or your back brakes aren't adjusted up far enough. Also adjust your brake switch that will help with the brake lights staying on, I had to mine and it was a real pain!!!

I got it adjusted today. some dumb@ss was being lazy when he put the rod in and instead of putting it like it came off... he put it on the wrong side of the pedal...well this caused the pedal to be too short because of the angle. So I dropped the column and bolted the rod on the correct side of the pedal and what do you know.... it works. I also installed the intermidiate e-brake cable and the rear brakes will need adjustment... I don't think they are even grabbing... I'll tackle that next weekend. We spent too long today trolling the neighborhoods for cars... saw some nice projects I wish were mine....Why can't I be rich????

Glad you got it fixed. I was just going to say adjust the brake light switch... It would have solved the brake light problem....

I would've done that... but the brakes were grabbing up front... I would have to pull the pedal back with my foot...ever have to do that? You don't realize how many times you actually step on the brake til you have to pull it back every time.
