I have a 58 GMC 150 complete running and driving, but the tires are probably the original so I want to buy new ones but no one will do a split. So my question my fellow truck guyswhat wheel can I use that makes it so I can keep the original center caps and not have split rim. Keep in mind it's a 8 lug wheels. Thanks for your help guys

Had to put one of our wedding pictures on the post just got them lol

If it were me, I'd make a slide hammer bead braking bar and a filling cage then keep the wheels and mount/dismount the tires myself.

Maybe a wheel shop can fix you up with some look a likes. Or get the old centers welded into some new rim outers. Be very carefull witj split rims, they are killers.

Yeah that's why I want to get rid of them I worked at a tire shop when I was a kid and seen some blow out, not gonna even try to take them apart. Bad things would happen.

I worked in a station as a kid and probably done 100 of them. From pickups to 18 wheelers. It's really not that big of deal if you have a bead breaker and a cage.

I've had rings pop a couple of times but no issues since they were caged.

Once they are put on correctly and the tires are aired up, they are no longer dangerous since they are locked in place by the bead.

Breaking them down is never dangerous since there's no air in the tires.

I lost a friend back in the 70's because he aired one up leaning over it and it took the top of his head off.
He was the guys who sold us low buck rodders our rims and tires in Waco Texas back then.

I don't now about fitting the hubcaps but later as in mid 70's factory steel wheels will fit the truck. I carry a Ford rim for a spare on my 71 3/4 ton GMC as far as that goes.

If you were hard core there are some outfits that sell just the the rim that you can fit on your center or as someone mentioned earlier it is possible to swap rims on the center. For that you have to find rims that have the right Id to fit the center.

This is where a buddy who works in a machine shop that has a big lathe that will handle the rims comes in real handy.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
