Floorboard not flat?

I am working on the cab of my '56 and notice that the floorboard slopes down about halfway between the seat mount and kick-up. See the light under the straight edge.About a 1/2" gap.

Is this normal? I am thinking that the front cab mounts are pushed up making the floor convex. The floor is relatively solid with a small section of rust through on the passenger side.

Let me know your thoughts and if I need to fix it.
Thanks

Re: Floorboard not flat?

go underneath and check the cab mounts and door pillars for rust. they commonly rust out due to water running down the cowl vent ducting, but that duct has a small drain hole at the bottom that gets plugged with leaves, pine needles etc, so that whole area is suspect for integrity. mine was the same and that whole area needed to be replaced. cab mount supports under floor were toast so that lets the floor sag.

Re: Floorboard not flat?

All, thanks for the comments.
- the doors fit reasonably for this vintage of quality control. Hinges need rebuild, but not major "drooping" issues.
- the underside steel is mostly solid in the area of the front cab mounts and hinge pillar (this is not a Minnesota truck, so the rust is minimal compared to what we usually see up here

I was hoping that others would say their floors are like this - just a standard feature from the factory!

Re: Floorboard not flat?

I checked both my 58 & 59 Cabs with a straight edge and they are straight across,
no drop in that area at all, both my tucks are from the west coast and desert.
is your passenger side the same way? does the trans cover have a fitment issue in those area's also?
Hope you get it sorted out.
Allen
by the way, GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!! (:

Re: Floorboard not flat?

Looks like it sags right at the seam.
Probably just showing its age.
I would try and make it as flat as possible.

Re: Floorboard not flat?

Guys - thanks for the additional thoughts on this. Yes, both sides are the same. I need to replace the lower hinge panel on both sides and am welding in a new tunnel. I will try to straighten (flatten) this area out during the process.

This will raise my cab (and front fenders) slightly in the front which is not a bad thing - I am a little low in the front with the way my '69 camaro front clip ended up.

Again - thanks for all the comments. I really enjoy reading your various project threads - tremendous talent and creativity on this board!

Yes, Vikings off to a good start with that new stadium for inspiration!
