Quick Heater Core Replacement Question
I'm about to tackle a heater core replacement job on an '84 K2500 with A/C. This truck is fairly unmolested and still has all of the factory insulation around the A/C box under the hood and on the firewall. Are there any bolts or nuts that are behind the factory insulation that I need to remove to get the heater core out? I was wondering if I was going to have to cut out and remove that factory insulation, which I'm hoping I don't have to.
Thanks.

Re: Quick Heater Core Replacement Question
I believe there are 4 nuts under the hood. The one below the blower motor is tough to get to. Every thing else comes out from under dash. No insulation should be in the way. It's not a fun job but doable. Good luck.

Re: Quick Heater Core Replacement Question
Oh, ok. Sounds good. I was hoping I wouldn't have to disturb that insulation on the firewall and A/C unit.
Thanks!

Re: Quick Heater Core Replacement Question
I used a flexible socket extension and flexible extension mirror to see that bottom bolt/nut under the a/c box. Both tools are available at Harbor Freight for cheap if you don't already have them.

Re: Quick Heater Core Replacement Question
I would just pull the inner fender, it doesn't take long to do if the truck is fairly rust free.

Re: Quick Heater Core Replacement Question
+1 on dropping the inner fender. And taking the two bolts out of the right lower dash, at the kick panel. You will see them when the glove box is removed. With those bolts removed it will give you a small bit of flex in the lower metal dash to help remove the HVAC case.
