Front air ride only
Okay I'm at work and I'm thinking about things to do to my truck. Currently my truck has a drop kit.... in the rear it's dropped on blocks bolt on C notch and it looks like the previous owner remove some leaf springs and in the front it looks like all he did was cut the springs it's a real bad ride my intentions is to get a set of CPP drop spindles up front and a set of new Springs as well in the rear I want to bring it down some more, maybe some drop hangers and shock extensions to kind of get it a little lower. I got under the truck and look at the distance I have about 6 inches of play with.....i want to do is drop it down maybe 4 more inches get it down as low as I can without sacrificing cutting into the bed....now the front is where I have the question can I want to run front bags only..... some will say why not just do the whole thing because $$$$ I figured I can lower the rear and not be too worried about it but I know if I lower the front down 6-7 inches I might have problems so if I put an air ride up front and leave the rear until I'm ready to install bags in the rear well I guess my question is has anyone done this.... just put bags up front

Re: Front air ride only
So you're implying your rear is flipped, has blocks and you still want to go another 4 inches? That would mean you would be lowered 11-12" in the rear. I don't think that would be possible and still be able to drive it. As far as the front goes yes you can do just a front setup and add the rear later if you want.

Re: Front air ride only
And the front you can only go so low before you drag the lower a arms they are the lowest point in the front. That is why most run a dropmember or a raised crossmember because that. The rear the center of the rear end will hit the bed before anything else happens.

Re: Front air ride only
I have 4 inches of clearance on my lowers and plow asphalt all the time. you can install bags on the front only. I was going to do just that but ran out of funds. you should look at my setup sometime. also get ahold of Jason pang at cammods hes the man when it comes to air bags

Re: Front air ride only
Your jus not gonna buy parts an go that low. Your gonna have to cut the bed an out a bigger notch in then add bars in the notch so they dont flex etc...if you wana go that low might as well jus bag it

Re: Front air ride only
For height reference... This is bagged front & rear without cutting the front or rear inner fenders, an uncut bed floor, & a bolt in c-notch.
The tires hit the front inner fenders before the control arms will hit the ground. The rear has an adjustable bump stop to keep the rearend from hitting the bed floor when aired out. I used an Ekstensive kit in front. http://ekstensive-metal-works.myshop...-1-ton-15-22in So, Yes you could use this kit (or one of the many similar kits) in front and roll a static drop in back. |

Re: Front air ride only
Thanks guys!
The front is just an Ekstensive kit as I mentioned. The rear is a kit I dreamed up. It's a very simple 2 link design (sorry 2 link haters!) It allowed me to use factory front hangers, the factory shock mounts, worked with my K5 blazer gas tank & my existing bolt in c-notch. The adjustable pan hard bar is in front of the rear end because of the K5 tank. All of the air management stuff is where the factory drivers side gas tank would be. Mounted compressor & tank to the frame then made a plate that attaches to the side of the tank (using Accuairs killer tank brackets) to hold relays, valve block, junction point, etc. |

Re: Front air ride only
I mentioned earlier about an adjustable stop in the notch to keep the rear end from hitting the bed floor.
The notch was actually too big so we welded in a plate & then drilled & tapped a hole for a bump stop so you can thread it in/out easily or add spacers as needed to keep it from hitting the bed floor or to add rake if wanted. |
