The Hippie AD

I saw this parked down the street from my house yesterday while taking the kids to Chick-fil-A for dinner. My guess is that it runs on peace, love, good vibes, and second hand cannabis smoke. I do think it's a cool idea for a camper. The kids also thought it was pretty cool, my daughter now wants to paint my truck.

I am old enough that style/type of camper/bus with similar decorating, looks real familiar!

Re: The Hippie AD

Reminds me of the 53 suburban we drove cross county from CA to NY in 1969. Had a surfboard bolted to roof and a rod knock that limited speed to exactly 47.5 MPH. I hear its still in use as a Farmers horse feed bid somewhere near Seneca Falls.

Re: The Hippie AD

Hey I can relate to that!!!

We used to live in those in the mountains of British Columbia and cruise around B.C., Idaho, Washington and even the Yukon and parts of Alaska all through the 1970s and early 80s.

There really was some creative funky homes on wheels running around back then on really beautiful old trucks. Most of ours had hand made cedar siding or shakes because we could go out and get that sort of stuff in the bush for free.

There seemed to be lots of old trucks around especially in the fruit growing areas.

Life was much simpler then...

Re: The Hippie AD

iheVintovka no doubt sees a lot of similar paint styles on 101 as they pass though where he lives and I passed though there about four hours ago and am sitting in Banden now.

For the past 3 days we have done US 1 and 101 from Pismo beach where we went to the Race of Gentlemen http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr4...?sort=2&page=1

I was a bit amazed by the number of hippy types hitch hiking 101. Far more than there are rides for. It seemed that they had to have a costume on in Humboldt ca where we ate breakfast this morning.

We did see a painted up GM school bus of mid 60's origin in a parking lot this morning. I think that was at Trees of Mystery.

My guess is that that the truck in the photos still has the original engine or a later version of a stovebolt 6.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: The Hippie AD

Just saw several Odd makeshift truck campers just today on 101 on way to view progress. Of note is the one on a flatbed 80's chevy with living quarters and a green house. Latter is probably for dope.

BTW Or dope legalization may have a very short life according to insurance companies and gun shops. Huge premiums for all. No insurance for dopers and no gun sales to them as well. Rates up already. Bill in to exclude dopers from welfare as well. Maybe some have come out of their stupor.

Re: The Hippie AD

From seeing the "NEED WEED?" signs for the pot shops in Brookings and up the coast. I'd say that the out of stater market is the big market there.

It's probably the south bound migration of the free spirits and their colorful rigs right now by the number of hitch hikers I saw this week. We drove though the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco last week by accident and some of the individuals there looked like they haven't moved too far from the spot they were sitting in since the 60's.

I saw a green and mix match painted Chevy school bus from somewhere in the 80's I think at the trees of Mystery yesterday that was doing it's best to be a vintage free spirit bus.
