Is this rare?

I am more familiar with the 73-87 square body trucks, but this truck came into my work as a trade yesterday, just wondering if this configuration is rare or not. Its a 1999 Tahoe, 4wd, 2 door with barn doors.

Nah. Half the guys I went to high school with had those. I only remember seeing two with a tailgate style rear end.

Re: Is this rare?

Not rare per se, but it did have lower production numbers. In good clean straight condition it could fetch a pretty penny. They were available with the 6.5, now one of those I'd like to find.

Re: Is this rare?

Barn doors for the win! If I could find a clean 2 door Yukon with barn doors and a 6.5l I'd be happy!

I'm with ya there on Yukon and clanky...but barn doors? Why? I had a Tahoe with them and grew to dislike immensely. They don't stay open unless you open them all the way and then you've got wind and anything near you to contend with. To say nothing of the blind spot they create. Is there something I don't know about the gate and glass that makes it even worse to own?

I despised the tailgate on my K5. It's always in the way when loading or unloading stuff in the back. Just a personal preference I guess, I'll keep the tailgate use limited to my pickups .

Re: Is this rare?

I loved the tailgate style rear door on my 95 2 door Tahoe. I wouldn't want one with barn doors.

Re: Is this rare?

I always wanted to have a custom dutch door setup made for my Suburban. Use the one-piece glass from the tailgate and the bottom doors from the barn doors. You'd have the unobstructed view the tailgate setup provides with the shorter reach-in depth of the barn doors.

If they send that to the auction they will be leaving money on the table. Tell them to detail it and check it mechanically and if it checks out put it on the used car lot for 7450.00 and see what happens.

Re: Is this rare?

Re: Is this rare?

I've mostly seen these with tailgate. The barn doors are the exception, whether considered rare or not. I'd like to have this set-up for a couple reasons. Never offered in prior bodies and it's great to open and crawl in. I camped in the back of my '85 Jimmy often and that required climbing over the tailgate.

Re: Is this rare?

Although not really rare, I don't tend to see many late 90's 2-door versions on the road but see tons of 4-door models.

The 4-door Tahoes/Yukons are what sold. That's why the 2-doors are much less common and why they never carried over past the GMT-400 generation. Making them even more uncommon is the fact that 2-door Yukons ended after the '97 model year while the 2-door Tahoe continued through '99.
