So i found stuff.

So i finally decided to try reading the SPID sheet, and found out that my truck is a 350 v8 truck with a turbo 400 trans, power brakes, ac, power steering, was white, had a blue interior, and this is what it has right now. but its on a 73-87 frame, but it looks like the original motor/ transmission. but my truck has been restored before, but i think it may be numbers matching.

Re: So i found stuff.

Kinda hard to be 'numbers matching' if the frame is different.

I know that i mean motor/ trans. which gives me some worries. if its a 47 year old trans, then there is a chance its worn out, the motor is pretty fresh looking so im not worried about that. if the trans is junk im throwing a 5 speed in it.

Il look at that tonight if i remember, its lifted so doing anything in the engine bay is a PIA and makes me become a human pretzel. but underside repairs are easy, who needs a jack

Re: So i found stuff.

How can you tell from the SPID sheet that the trans is a TH400? My SPID just lists M49 Turbo-Hydramatic, and it turns out to be a TH-350.

Re: So i found stuff.

your truck was born 2 wheel drive and converted to 4x4 am I correct? The 2 wheel 400 and 4 wheel 400 are different and short of a divorced transfer case a 2 wheel trans won't work in a 4x4. So if your truck is converted to 4x4 than that means it's not the original trans... Also no 67-72 4x4 auto ever came from the factory with a th400, all 4x4 autos were th350.

The 400 2wd had the same output shaft as the 4x4 for the 205 t-case, and can be easily swapped with just the adapter. 203 t-case took a shorter output, and the 241/208 combo had a different length also

The only way to utilize a 2wd 400 is with a custom adapter from advance adapters etc.
The out is 32 spline but is longer than a 4wd shaft.the 400/205 is very hard to find but
I do have a few laying around but have sold hundreds over the years to ORD.

Wrong, factory 2wd and 4wd, (205) both have the same 4-1/2'' stick-out from the back of the trans. The only difference is the 2wd is normally threaded for the bolt on yoke.
