Wood bed assembly

What is the best way to assemble a wood bed? On the truck or off?

Re: Wood bed assembly

I'm at the same stage. My bed is off-I've done the body work and it's ready for paint. I plan to paint the bed while it's off the truck, install wood, then mount it to chassis. I rigged up my chain hoist so it shouldn't be too hard.

I found it better to have the bed off for ease of access to the fasteners on the underside. You'll just need a couple extra pair of hands or a lift / hoist to put it back on the frame when done.

Re: Wood bed assembly

Off is by far easier. Suspended my box after the wood was installed, then drove right under it while some friends lined up to rebolt it to the frame.

Here is a before and after.
