Adding some Bass

Wanted to add a little low end to my audio in my '72, I wasn't looking to rattle anyones teeth or set off car alarms, just something that would give me some low end, and be on par or a little better than a high end factory system from Chevrolet like I have in my 2013 2500HD. I ended up going with this unit as it seemed to be well reviewed and an attractive price point. I will report back in the spring when I install it and let everyone know how it worked, planning on putting it under the drivers side seat.

I'll definitely be interested to see how you like this. I've had my eye on a Rockford Fosgate PS-8. I was able to listen to one at my local car stereo shop, and it was MORE than sufficient for what I'm looking for. If I could get the same for 1/2 the money, well...

My expectation was to have about the same amount of Bass that my Bose system in my 2500 LTZ put out, and let me tell you I was very suprized at the amount of bass this sub can put out, very very happy with my purchase. Has taken the C10's tinny audio to a legit system. Love it.

Decided to give it a try, Dad ordered it for me for my birthday today with the wiring kit. Will give feedback in combination with my Pioneer head unit and Polk speakers in the Retro Sound kick panels.

I'll toss in my lil solution for bass in older trucks. Instead of instantly going for a sub, look at the current speaker setup and see if there is room for improvement. What I mean by that is; a basic stereo directly powering a few speakers mounted into kick panels or doors, is leaving some power and some volume on the table going unused.

When we built the setup for my '66, we decided to run a 4channel amp (provides clean, equalized power to all 4 speakers, allowing the head unit to only deal as a reciever), and we mounted the 6.5" components in a box enclosure that made up my center console. This box, along with properly spec'd and amplified components, puts out as much bass as most smaller (8" and cheapy 10") bass-box solutions. The other benefit being a smaller form factor since your not adding as many pieces which require their own air volume. Its just something to consider for any guys in the "design" phase on their project. A little forethought can go a loooong way in terms of function.

Man, this thing sounds pretty damn good. Only had it in for an hour or so and dialing in the settings on the head unit. Set gain to about half way, bass boost all the way down and LPF to 150 hz (head unit will control actual cut off). Head unit set to 80 hz LPF and 100 hz HPF to cut the lows to the Polks currently running off the head. Loud and clear...more of a thump kind of bass than a boom. I was laughing with joy I was so surprised by how good it is, I wasn't expecting that at this price point. The Polks will get an amplifier when my Sentra gets an upgrade soon, then I can really see what this thing can do.
